A Little Bit About Lindsay
Hey readers, I am Lindsay Duringer (soon to be Lindsay Lyons). I am from San Diego and have been living here for almost all of my 25 years. I went to various elementary schools in the Poway Unified District, then attended Bernardo Heights Middle School and Rancho Bernardo High School. After high school I attended The University of Arizona for one year, coming back home once I realized that San Diego is a lot better than Tucson (ok, there are some redeeming qualities in Tucson for all of you Wildcats). I then went to Palomar College for two years where I played on the Women's Basketball team. From there I transfered to the University of San Diego where I finished up my Bachelor of the Arts degree in political science. Finally I made my way to the credential program at CSUSM!
I do not consider myself to be computer savvy...in fact, this is my very first blog. I was definitely one of "those people" who didn't think I would ever be blogging because a) I didn't even truly know what a blog was and b) I didn't think I had the skills to do so. Nevertheless, here I am! I am a staunch PC person, although after this course I may have to re-think that. I utilize a computer on daily basis, but usually only for emailing, internet surfing, setting my lineup in my fantasy football league (Go Chargers!), or typing papers for class. I use the computer and internet enough to feel really lost if the internet is down or something is wrong with my computer. I made the switch to Windows Vista and have grown to enjoy it. After working through the initial frustrations in the switch, I have found it to be a lot more user-friendly.
The Mission Statement for the College of Education has almost been engrained in me by this point (and I only started taking classes for it this past June!). I do agree with the COE faculty that it is a fantastic statement. It sets the standards very high and holds its faculty and students to high expectations. Although I did not apply to the credential program because of the statement itself, I have a part that speaks to me: "to collaboratively transform public education by preparing thoughtful educators and advancing professional practices." As a future teacher, I believe few things are are more important right now than transforming our education system in this state and nation. One teacher at a time!
